Managing the Digital Enterprise is a project of the Open Courseware Laboratory begun in 1998 at North Carolina State University. The term "open courseware" applies to educational material that is made publicly available for individual use without charge, typically via the web. Open courseware builds upon the longstanding tradition among scholars of sharing information to advance the frontier of knowledge.
The site adheres to the following set of principles:
To provide an educational resource that is available year round, whenever a student may need it.
To provide a resource that reaches across geographic, organizational, and national boundaries.
To provide a resource that is open to everyone who has access to the web.
To provide a resource that engages scholars and practitioners in a collaborative learning community.
To provide a resource that changes continually to reflect the latest knowledge in research and practice.
To provide a resource that presents diverse points of view.
Lastly, to provide an educational resource that is open by design. It is both open and depends upon the openness of the web to create educational value.
